This is one of those books that will stay with me long after reading. The language is poignantly beautiful despite describing such harrowing events as those of Mengele's Zoo at Auschwitz. With its subject matter, the book is understandably difficult to read at times but that's why it's so important to persevere. We mustn't forget the atrocities of the past if we want a better future.
The characters of Pearl and Stasha are memorable and their relationship as identical twins is explored with subtlety. The author is able to show the rare bond of being a twin and the incredibly close connection they share.
This is definitely one of the best books I've read this year and one that I will be recommending to so many people!
