I've only read the first 3 chapters, but I'm already etching to know what happens next and where this story is going.
The passages are really well written, starting slowly and introducing the characters and scene in good detail so you get to know them and feel like you're following along with the story as it develops, rather than being dragged as some stories do if they don't set the tone correctly at the start.
There are hints of magic and whimsy in this, but there is enough of the real world written into the fabric of the story to make it plausible and believable.
