I like the cover of this book! It is such a calm, beautiful cover that seems suitable for the story and its genre. However, I knew from the cover that this book would not be my cup of tea as I do not really enjoy contemporary fiction.
Still, I decided to read the First Look of this book as there was a small chance I could end up really engrossed by the story. Erica James writing is certainly vivid and rich which made for a great start. I also liked that within just a few pages Erica is able to define these realistic characters with distinct personalities. There is even some comedy thrown in that made me smile as I read.
Despite this, I found that my attention started drifting towards the end of the First Look. This is not a reflection of the story; just my preference for whimsical, atypical (aka fantasy) stories kicking in.
