From first glance, Mr Peacock's Possessions is like nothing I've ever read before! I adore books which explore history alongside a fictional narrative, and this novel seems to tick that box perfectly. I loved how the first few chapters are organised, switching between two separate voices yet already enticing the reader with the suggestion that somehow the two characters' experiences are linked.
I also adored the front cover - the bird entwined in the plant above suggests to me a desire to be free but an inability to escape. I'd love to read on and find out if I am right!
