I don't know why, but for some reason I had kind of dismissed this book in the back of my mind. I entered the competition for readers first in the hopes of trying something different, but when I won it I didnt bother reading it for ages because I didn't think it would be that good. I even moaned to my mum about it being the only book I have to read the other day. How utterly wrong I was. I was so pleasantly surprised by this book, which was unexpectedly brilliant. The plot had me hooked pretty quickly, and it was hard not to look ahead to the ending, so desperate was I for answers to the big mystery. But more than just a thrilling book, it was a highly literary piece of work, beautifully written and designed to provoke thought without casting judgement or announcing bias. The shifting perspectives and timelines were well managed and really worked with the story. Also, the character of Lizzie reminded me of the character of Jo from Little Women, one of my all time favourite books and heroines as well, so that was a bonus. My only complaint is that the ending was a little inconclusive, quite open ended, but then perhaps that is also part of the point of this book. There are no clear answers, and you have to satisfy yourself with the unknown. I highly recommend this book and will definately be reading it again.
