This story gripped me from the firs page to the last page

Set in 1979, the book begins when the body of a young woman is discovered in an alleyway, quickly followed by the body of an older woman in the boot of a car. As more bodies turn up, Tennison works hard to prove links and catch a killer before they strike again.
Although this is the fourth in a series and references are made to earlier cases, and presumably books, the fact I had not read any of them did not in any way detract from my enjoyment of this novel.
The characters were all well rounded and believable, and are a good fit for the period the book is set in. There were many attitudes displayed which were very 1970s, and written in keeping with the plot. This shows good skills by the author. It was really interesting to see Tennison as a more junior officer, and how she fitted in at a lower level than we are used to her being at.
Lynda La Plante has another winner here.
