Believe it or not this is the first Lynda la Plante book that I have read which is surprising as I love crime and she’s written so many. I really enjoyed this book and although it’s the fourth in this series I still understood what was happening. I will however be reading the others. I thought it was simply told and sometimes very matter of fact. I thought that the author captured life in the seventies very well and it was evident how difficult it was for women to have a career where males dominated like the police force.Throughout the book we see sexism , where Jane’s opinions are seen as stupid. Also throughout there are homophobic comments which we hope would be so unacceptable now.Jane is a very strong lead character and very likeable she’s intelligent and good at her job. As for the actual story I though it was very well constructed and came to a satisfactory conclusion.
