This is a fascinating read, looking at how the definition of murder has changed over time, and highlighting both well known, and lesser known crimes to demonstrate this.
The writing style, though dealing with some important legal distinctions remains very readable throughout. It would have been easy for this book to have been either very dry, or to have used lots of jargon which a non legal person would have struggled with, but the author avoided this well, without making it overly simplistic.
The historical elements all feel very well researched, and as I said, there was a nice mix of well known and lesser known crimes discussed which added to my interest throughout.
All of the focus was on the British legal system, and it would have been interesting to see how this differs in other countries, but perhaps that is for another book.
Definitely an interesting book to read. Thanks to Reader's first for sending me a free review copy.
