Murder: The Biography brings together some unique historical cases and literature on the subject to create a unique account of the way that criminal law in the UK has been formed.

Across 300-ish pages it provides a comprehensive account of how crimes from far back have worked together to create the justice system and shape the view of what constitutes murder today. It's interesting to see how some of the common misconceptions of how sentencing works can actually be explained with some nuance.

I think Kate Morgan's professional career also lends credence to the book, but her writing style also provides an approachable, story-like approach to history. I am not sure it needed the picture gallery that was included, but I think if you're watching true crime documentaries on Netflix, then this is one for you - and that it would make a great gift for a certain type of person!
