The book itself is very informative and well researched, although it is quite a difficult read, with lots of criminal and law references. The book makes you realise how the laws of murder has progressed over the centuries, starting as far back as the 9th century when the vikings came. I found the book quite long winded and could have done with more cases, as they were the most interesting parts in learning what the victims and murderers went through from the first trials to trying to get appeals. It told many different aspects of the law, from hanging to life sentences and from trying to get away with murder by pleading insanity. I think some of the writing was too complicated and could have done with being more simplified to encourage more readers. Overall the book was average, not one of the best that I have read, but it is very informative.
