What an interesting book. I was engrossed from the start all the way through. I even discovered towards the end that there was a murder in the town I live in in 2010. Thankfully neither victim or murderer are known to me!
The is all about how the charge of murder came about and over the years how the law has been slow to change. It looks into not just the law concerning the murder of individuals that is addressed here, but also when a disaster has happened and prosecuting the company deemed responsible proves impossible. Such instances such as Aberfan are used as examples. It is heartbreaking that in such cases, because of the existing law, no one has been able to be prosecuted for the loss of lives. The cases that go into detail date from a few hundred years ago to very recent. The miscarriages of justice such as Derek Bentley are also used to show how one size fits all doesn't work.
This is a very interesting book and worth a read.
