My Mother's Secret is an intense and thought provoking thriller. The story is told from the perspectives of three of the main characters allowing the reader to get a glimpse into the unraveling story from various perspectives.
The first character to be introduced is Lizzie Bradshaw who is a wife, mother and student who is from the Lake District but is forced to work away from home three days a week. Lizzie is very much an outdoors person that would do anything for her husband and baby son. Lizzie witnesses a terrible crime that will change her life forever.
Emma Taylor, also a mother and wife but with a completly different personality and outlook to life than Lizzie. Emma has a dark secret that could put her family in great danger.
Stella Taylor is Emma's stuborn and rude teenage daughter who is adamant on revealing her mother's secret.
These characters all help to unravel the mystery surrounding Emma's life in such a way that makes you see it through each characters eyes and exactly how it effects them. This does mean that some of the plot is quite obvious from fairly early on in the book but i dont feel that this spoils the book in anyway as there are so many twists and turns along the way.
This was an amazing read with so many twists, turns and surprises along the way that there really was no way of knowing exactly how this was going to end until the end of the book! This is the first book ive read by Sanjida Kay but i will deffinatly be keeping an eye out for more of her books!
