This is a beautifully told story, which is full of colour contrasting with the hurt and pain Hadi and Sama are feeling. The author describes everything in great detail, yet uses short sentences to tell this story.

The characters bring you in to their love and heartbreak, as their POV switches. I really liked both characters, as they try to make sense and fight against their separation. They’re well developed even with the short sentences and chapters. The author is able to create full and interesting characters, and you root for them to have their happy ending

The book highlights issues with immigration, citizenship status and land borders, yet also explores the problems with this concept by exploring the migration of birds, the subject Sama studies. I thought this was well done and highlighted the issues with political yet invisible land borders, and how place of birth is luck of the draw, yet can separate families in devastating ways

I found it an easy read, yet it does explore some important topics. It’s one that will make you think and get angry and feel sad, yet there is hope and love.
