I read this book quicker than I've read anything for a long time. It tells the moving, heart-wrenching story of Hadi and Sama, a Syrian couple whose new, hopeful lives in America are torn apart by a cruel change in law. I felt the author portrayed the despair and disbelief they felt at their separation and desperation to be reunited very well. I enjoyed reading about how they both separately came to be in America and the references and comparisons to a bird's migratory behaviour were thought provoking.
The pressures and emotions faced by the separated couple feel very relevant and poignant at the moment.
The chapters are short, swapping between both characters and between timelines too. So although you have to concentrate, it is easy to read and keeps you engaged.
A beautiful cover adds to the appeal and this would make a lovely gift.
