I think this novel told a story that needed to be told. Explaining the impact that someone like Donald Trump could have on the lives of ordinary people. How devastating an impact that could be.
I liked the facts that were interspersed about migrating birds as a background to the story.
At times it was a little hard to keep up with, as it flowed so quickly from one part of the story to the other, from the past to the present and from person to person. The author definitely conveyed the emotions, the chaos of immigration and how so often innocent people get caught up in political struggles that have nothing to do with them.
I perhaps wanted a slightly more positive ending, but I am equally aware that that is not necessarily how things turn out in life. Particularly for those who are fleeing from persecution.
