I'll be absolutely honest, I found this book difficult. Not difficult in the sense of the way it was written, the language used or general prose, but I found it difficult to keep my attention. At first impressions it sounded amazing, almost like a fairytale retelling. A woman with magical hair, it's ability to detect and change the moods of Norma and those around her, to warn her of danger and so on... it sounds like she could be a modern day Rapunzel. But alas, I got my hopes up. Don't get me wrong, the story took an interesting turn (one I wasn't expecting- surrogacy and baby markets) rather than a simple "my mother's suicide may not have been a suicide". But all in all, even though the book dealt with relevant issues of today (women's roles in society, control by men etc) it just fell flat. Maybe now I know what to expect, a reread may result in a better rating.
Finishing on a good note, the hardback edition is gorgeous, the cover is wonderful.
