Maybe lost in translation?

I wanted to read this because the ideas behind it were quite intriguing - magical hair - a suicide/murder and mysterious relatives at a funeral - thought it might be quite original.
I was looking forward to reading about Norma's secluded life with her mother and possessing and living with magical hair - hair that could detect lies and alert her to dangers no less, but at times the story is hard to read, as in it doesn't flow and feels quite stilted to read. Often the storyline jumps to and from characters (some that are one dimensional) and as you have to keep going back and forth to remind yourself what is going on it takes the enjoyment out of what, for me, looked like a promising read.
That said, Norma's character does shine through and as it is a translated text guess maybe that is it's problem.
