He was advised early on in his career to write about what he knows and he based many of his characters on friends and family members.
The book reads very well and the authors style is evident throughout, telling many anecdotes about other famous people. But I enjoyed his time in Africa the most as it was almost like reading his fiction. Well worth sitting down and reading this book.
