Having had ballroom dance lessons since I turned 13, I felt instantly drawn to this story.
It’s hard to experience the grand ballrooms, elegant dresses and atmosphere of a ball in 2019 but this book makes me feel as if I were there dancing myself.

The description of the hotel and the ballroom and dancing in general really set the scene of 1930’s London whilst still highlighting important issues of the time such as antisemitism and social inequality.

The characters of Nancy and the King, the upper class people and the hotel employees are all really interesting characters with secrets and detail that makes me be able to picture them in the hotel.

At first I was a bit worried about reading a book by someone that isn’t an author by trade but after I started I couldn’t stop and Anton Du Beke has really proved himself at writing a beautiful story.

The cover of the book is perfect and reflects the glamour and romance of the story.
