A twist-filled psychological thriller about family ties and dark secrets

One Year Later is a twist-filled psychological thriller that explores themes of love, loss, secrets and grievances. The story resolves around the tragic death of Amy and Matt Flowers' three-year-old daughter, Ruby-May. The narration alternates between different time periods, locations and points of view, building tension and suspense as the plot slowly unravels. It is largely narrated from the first-person viewpoint of Ruby-May's uncle, Nick, with several chapters narrated in the third person, focusing on the perspective of Ruby-May's mother, Amy.

The book felt a bit overwhelming to start; several characters were introduced at once and the style of narration was unlike anything I had read before. However, as the story progressed and I became accustomed to the characters and the narration, I found myself becoming increasingly drawn into the plot. The plot had several twists and turns, and the characters were mostly believable with interesting backstories and plausible motives. I felt Nick's voice lacked authenticity at times, and the frequent references to Dante's Divine Comedy went over my head. However, I did enjoy the book and the twisty plot kept me turning the pages.
