I'd not heard of this writer before but immediately liked the style of writing. It was hugely appealing to me that the cast of characters (and it does seem like a big cast that will take some getting to know) are diverse and interesting and the setting is also unusual - the houses being restored and the presence of workmen is interesting. The looming presence of the pandemic is also intriguing - I'm yet to read much about the periods of lockdown so would be keen to give it a go!
