I can see why this book would be popular with a lot of people, as the world building was fantastic and the symbolism of the writing was great. The imagery was beautifully written, and the story did make me use my imagination. However, I did feel like I spent a lot of time confused by what was going on, especially at the beginning. Once I was further into the book it did start to make more sense, but it was a slow burner for me.
It may be that I didn't read this at the right time for me to fully appreciate the storyline, but it just didn't click for me. I wanted to finish it as I had seen such great reviews and it had of course been nominated for awards, so thought it would probably be a good book to read.
I did like the way the main character explored the buildings and was so confident about how to move around the building to keep himself safe. I feel like this aspect was well written.
