If you love Snow White then this is the book for you. Donnelly's 'Poisoned' is a subversion of Snow White but with a much more sinister twist. There is definitely a feminist twist within the novel which is good to keep an eye out for! Undeniably there is a dual personality in some characters, which makes the novel more Gothic than fantasy. However, this book is not for everyone, at times it is difficult to connect with the characters and the tale thus hard to get into. But this was the first 'Snow White' based tale that i read, I haven't even read the original tale or watched the movie! But from the pre-existing knowledge i did have of the tale, helped me note down how Donnelly had subverted the text. The twisted elements make this a more exciting version of the Brother's Grimm' original works. I absolutely love Donnelly's work and this novel did meet the hype!
