A beautiful read, the setting is dark yet beautiful and compelling. A new perspective of the classic fairy tale 'Snow white', it has many connotations, but the feminist focus is refreshing and makes you think about how far we have come regarding our view on women. The main character, Sophie, is instantly likable, with her pure, kind countenance. The fact that she seems weak, because she is kind, is interesting, and the comparison between what kings can be like and what queens have to be like is very interesting. The character of evil stepmother is written very well too, she seems more relatable and you have a greater understanding of why she chooses to be severe, it is not really out of choice, it is more about survival as a woman in power.
Would highly recommend to anyone who likes fresh takes on old classic fairy tales, this one is one of the best I've read.
