Due to the review copies of the books being rather slow to arrive at the moment and having an exceedingly large backlog of books to read, I have only just got around to reading this. (Hey, I am a bibliophile. I cannot walk past anywhere selling books getting pulled into the shop. Oh, and buying one or two items)

However, I have only read it through very quickly, and I shall be rereading more thoroughly in order to provide a much fuller and fairer review.

The cover speaks volumes! Flames around a book indicating the inflammatory nature of the books - you can love them, loathe them or be indifferent. It also illustrates how books can divide people because of the subject matter or theme or on readers preferred genres and sub genres within fiction.

After my first reading it is clearly obvious that Emma Smith is a woman who is passionate about books as well as the written and printed word.

Portable magic is a highly readable, well written book which has been thoroughly researched.

Many aspects of books are covered including controversial books, book burnings, banned books - subjects that are still relevant today.

More than half of the states in the USA have books that are banned in schools for various reasons, there are prisons trying to ban some books from their libraries, as well as court cases trying to ban books.

Yes, books are still controversial and inflammatory, but still portable magic.
