Even before I read the opening I was going to read this book, regardless: the cover is INCREDIBLE, the author is Nigerian-American (big up my fellow Nigerians), and why wouldn't I love a fantasy novel set in a fictional African empire?!
Plus there's a map and the chapter headings are so pretty for their simplicity.
But the actual writing itself?! I also love. It's quite an easy style to read but there's also something about it that isn't boring or tiring. I could easily read Ifueko's writing gor hours.
I am so intrigued to found out more about the Council, the world and the magic. I can't wait to read the rest of this book!
