I think the best part of this book would have to be its illustrative and atmospheric worldbuilding. It was so unique, and rich, I felt transported into the book while reading. What was even more impressive was that it never felt like the same, typical YA fantasies I usually read and felt like a whole new experience because of its strong roots, and magic system based on West African Culture.

The characters were also just amazing on a whole other level. 3 dimensional, and ones you would root for till the end, the characters brought out ALL the feels within me, and either had me chuckling at their ingenuity or sobbing at the fact they may die the next second.

Overall, Raybearer was a unique YA fantasy, and one I would compare to the likes of The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna and Legendborn by Tracy Deonn for a complex and intricate magic system, as well as a rich, illustrative, and most importantly atmospheric world.
