A tropical masterpiece
I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this novel. I don't think it's one I would have picked out for myself despite liking the YA genre so I'm over the moon I got sent a copy to review.
The author did an excellent job of creating such vivid characters. Tarisai, Sanjeet and the Lady are just some amongst many characters that were so fleshed out, I almost thought they were real. The world building was magical and I definitely was transported to the different realms of Aritsar throughout the book. Although the language was a little unfamiliar at times, this only added to the mystery and intrigue surrounding the novel.
The plot was captivating and moved on at a good pace. I can confidently say there were no filler chapters within Raybearer, there was always something going on which I very much enjoyed. I'm desperate to know if book two is in the works because there's so much story left to continue. The conclusion was open ended with Tarisai becoming a Redemptor to hopefully carry on in book two. This debut novel is a massive credit to the talent of the author and I will be eagerly looking forward to more.
Lastly, a huge thanks to Reader's First and the publisher for sending out this copy after a couple months delay due to the pandemic (thank you so much!).
