This is a debut novel, and my word what a debut this is! When Tarisai comes of age she is sent to the capital to (hopefully) become one of the kings council, however this isn't her only mission, she is to kill the Crown Prince when the opportunity presents itself. This novel keeps you hooked with every page turn, from the characters to the really deep world building. This author has the knack of throwing ideas and plots at you, keeping you enthralled and wanting more. This is a west African based novel which is something that is new to me, I also hear there is going to be a sequel and that will just be amazing, more detailed world building, more character development and more unexpected points to the story line.
This book touches on real world ideas too, the characters being young and stubbon, doing what they think they should for good or bad. The leadership and want to get on with their lives is there.
