Wow. This book was amazing. The storyline wasn’t anything like I’d read before! I loved how there was a dictionary at the back of the book which listed out all the names of the characters, places and made up words. Not only did the author list these out, they also phonetically spelled each word out which was so helpful for me because I struggle with books that contain words that I don’t know how to say, so having this dictionary with the spelling and descriptions of the made of words and places really helped!
However, it took until chapter 4 until the book started leading anywhere. Saying that though, a lot of books are like this so that necessarily isn’t a bad thing because you have to build up a background of characters and places which the author did magnificently!
This was one of those books that I was thinking about at work and couldn’t wait to get home and begin reading again. Although sometimes I did feel like the writing was very varied, what I mean by this is that sometimes I felt there could of been more description within the writing, but this was literally only once or twice I felt that. Throughout the whole book I thought the author did a marvellous job of describing feelings, places and the people’s appearance; I even began to learn the characters personalities which is a really special thing that you don’t get with many authors. Even with younger characters the author managed to grasp the innocence in the way they portrayed themselves through their speech.
I also loved how the author always brought back people and places, this meant you weren’t forgetting who the person was and what that word meant. This makes it feel as though nothing that is written is irrelevant to the storyline; everything moods together so well.
Oh my! The turning point is something else. I don’t know about anyone else but I didn’t expect it. I didn’t guess it at any point until the moment I read the words on the page. Although I didn’t manage to guess it, it all makes so much sense. It pieces everything together and makes the book even more worthy of your time.
Also, I need to admire the character development that the author captured. Wow! The development of the characters really heightens at the turning point. The author never changes the characters core values though, which is truly incredible. They stay the same but bloom beautifully.
The end of the book was so gripping I wanted to read it in 2x speed but I also wanted to savour every word. I cannot wait for the release of the second book. August cannot come quicker!
I cannot recommend this book enough if you enjoy fantasy books!
