I was not sure I would like this book, I thought it might be depressing as it is about someone sinking into dementia. I was wrong. I like the fact the chapters are not too long so if I only have a short time to read I can just read one chapter. The story follows an adult child, Emily, reluctantly returning to her childhood home on the other side of the world to look after her father, supposedly temporarily. She has siblings with families whereas she is single and so is thought to be the suitable one to put her job on hold etc.
Initially she resents doing so but comes to value the time her and her father have together. He was a family doctor, well respected in the town, and time and care is taken to try to continue as normal.
Along with this there is a mystery about a woman they knew going missing twenty five years ago. There are tantalising hints and suspicions about what might have happened to her, which create even more tension in the story.
Well worth a read.
