It took me just two pages to feel a deep, strong connection to Missy. While I am not of her generation, nor had to live through what she did as she grew up, the author had written her introduction to Missy so wonderfully you can not help to love her as a character right away. I felt sympathy, fear, love and loss in all just a matter of the first few chapters, and I was hooked in seeing Missy's story develop and unfold. Missy's lonliness, and then desperate latching on to affection and attention, is perhaps reflective of how so many people, despite their age or background, has felt in the past 12 months. It allows the reader to feel more connected to the story, and as it does have a lighthearted feel to it, it is a positive story to read during a time when everything feels a bit doom and gloom. Thank you, for my copy of the book. For a debut novel, this is one brilliant piece of work.
