Missy Carmichael feels that there is little for her to look forward to apart from the visit of her son and grandson from Australia each Christmas. Her days are long and lonely. When two women she meets by chance in the park invite her to join them for a coffee she refuses and makes an excuse to hurry off. She is convinced they wouldn't really want her company but fortunately she meets them again and eventually they become good friends. As the story goes on we learn a lot about Missy's life and especially her relationship with her husband Leo. Like everyone she is far from perfect and has made mistakes which she regrets. I really enjoyed reading this book. It is well written and has a strong message about living life to the full and taking chances. Once Missy lets people into her life she finds that seventy-nine isn't too old to try new things and have fun.
