This is not the usual kind of book I read but I have to say that I enjoyed it very much. It was a very sweet and tranquil read and was very much character driven. I felt that I knew all the characters and didn't want it to finish. It is a love story between a feisty girl who comes to the Forest of Dean to work with the tree felling and an Italian POW who is allowed out of camp to help out.
The novel was well researched and the descriptions of the forest and the war seemed very real. However I did feel that Seppe's English was unrealistic in parts,on occasions he could hardly understand or speak English and then on other occasions had a deep and meaningful conversation. I also would have liked the story to have gone on a little longer as I felt the ending was quite abrupt. All in all well worth a read.
