I loved this book. It took me until about a third of the way through to really get hooked on this one. Connie is a factory girl who wants adventure. She wants a life she can't have until one day she has no choice. After going out to a dance and staying out all night, she gets off her bus to find that her road is no longer there. Set during the war in 1944 she ends up joining the Womens Timber Corp.
Sarah Franklin touches on so many different subjects in this story. I love how her chapters jump between the two main characters, Connie and Seppe. My favourite set up is how every now and again she will jump back in time and reveal more about that characters past.
You get to feel how they feel. Want what they want. It is so in depth and detailed. There is a fair bit of heart break throughout with just as many happy endings. It has ended with me wanting to know more though. Hopefully there is some form or sequel!
