I picked this book up after enjoying ‘The Accident’ by this author. The style seemed like it would be similar- short, pacy chapters to keep the pages turning.
I was intrigued at first, we meet Anna, a team leader at work in a struggling relationship has a devastating accident.
She chooses to hole away from life working at a remote island hotel in Scotland, but strange, dark things continue around her.
The premise was interesting and I loved ‘The Guest List’ which has a similar theme so I was keen to read on.
Unfortunately I just did not get into it at all. The brevity of the chapters meant you couldn’t really have any understanding or apathy with any of the characters. I felt I neither liked or disliked anyone and at the first it felt like there were far too many characters involved. Even in the conclusion, it was fairly predictable and I felt like I had read so many similar thrillers.
Disappointing for me, I prefer her earlier books and would give this one a miss.
