With the extract being not the beginning of the book, it has intrigued me on how the characters met and how he ensnares her. Then how the character deals with this increasingly obnoxious man she has fallen in love with as he continues to show his true colours. Even in this short extract you feel like screaming that she needs to get away from him as fast as she can, his behaviour causes all sorts of red flags; the money sent to his lacky, alienation from her family, pressuring her to marry all seems rather dodgy.
Certainly a interesting read as it is well known that often what we imagine a psychopath to look and act is far from the reality. Serial killers such as Ted Bundy being just one such example. Often they are charming and someone you would not suspect for they mask their true selves and beware to those who see that mask slip.
