This is written by the main character in the book. And it is her true story on how she met an amazing man that turns out to be a con man.

Carolyn Woods is working in a clothes shop when a guy comes in and is really charming and sweet. They end up going on a date. Things then move really fast and Carolyn is caught up in a whirlwind romance.

Carolyn is a mother of two grown-up daughters and has been divorced from her first husband for some years. She lives on her own in a pretty little cottage and is quite content with life.

When she starts seeing Mark, everything moves really quickly and soon they are looking for a house together. Everything seems to be Marks idea, but Carolyn goes along with it. It seems that Mark has a lot of money and he confesses to Carolyn that he works for the MI6 and has to be careful who he is with.

A lot of the things Mark comes out with seem really far fetched, but quite often he will back up his stories with some kind of evidence. Soon, he starts asking Carolyn to lend him money. Then things start to turn. Carolyn finds herself feeling alone, as Mark is away working all the time or serving in Syria. She has moved miles away from her family and has been separated from her friends.

When Mark's promises don't materialise Carolyn has had enough and wants to leave. This is when things start to come alight and see realises who Mark really is.

The first half of the book is about how she met Mark and their life together for around 17 months. Then the second half is about how she came to learn the truth about mark and try to bring him to justice.

I enjoyed reading this book. If I was Carolyn I would have left Mark months ago. But then again, with hindsight, Carolyn may be thinking the same thing.
