I had the opportunity to read a first impression of this book. Christy had a lot to live upto after the success of'The Beekeeper of Alepo.' I was doubtful that it would touch the sides of that first book but have been proven wrong in the first few pages.
Songbirds is a stunning book of visual storytelling, and profound sadness. It has exquisite descriptions that bring the creatures alive on the page. Very quickly I was sucked in to the world of a woman desperate to care for her daughter while working and living a world away from her. She lives on the green line between the Turks and Cypriot's. She is a maid a nanny a friend and a lover. This first impression has me drooling for more. Does she accept Yian Lefnis's ring, will the songbird be allowed to live. Will Nissan be found. The cover pulled me straight in to the book. I can not wait to read more.
