Unfortunately i've not read the authors previous novel only heard good reviews on The Beekeeper of Aleppo but after having a dip into Songbirds written style I know I'll have to add it to my wishlist! To say the least the writing is poetic and simply prosaic which I found greatly enjoyable. The characters are well developed and become more likeable as the plot unravels. It is beautifully written and draws you into the atmosphere of the sunny island Cyprus. The story is raw with emotion and very thought provoking. There is a series of flashbacks throughout the book tieing the plot together in a neat bow by the end.
The novel follows issues of racism and segregation in different backgrounds and social settings. These issues need to be brought to light and talked about more I applaud the author for including the real world gritty scenarios
