Set in Cyprus, Songbirds follows the disappearance of the maid, Nisha, who works for Petra and her child, and subsequent the search for her by Petra and Yiannis, her lover.
Despite not reading the author's previous book, I did enjoyed this novel but struggled with the pace and had to put it down several times to fully finish the book. It was interesting and insightful but took more time than expecting to complete it as it was a much slower pace. That said, it was very emotional, moving and had several interesting character plotlines. I liked the different perspectives included in the book and the imagery invoked by the author. Additionally, the cover was eyecatching and beautiful and accurately depicts the books contents. I will be checking out the author's previous book, the beekeeper of aleppo and more books of this particularl genre.
