This is the story of Nisha who left her daughter with her mother to come to work in Cyprus as a maid cum nanny to Petra and her new daughter Aliki.
One evening she disappears and Petra and Nisha’s lover Yiannis try to discover what happened to her. Yiannis is a poacher of the migratory song birds that are on their way to overwinter in Africa that he sells to restaurants. He begins to feel very guilty about what he does as Nisha was so sorry for the birds. Aliki loved Nisha as she spent so much time and effort with her. Nisha was a good influence on all who knew her as she loved everyone even though she didn’t see her daughter except on her phone as her working away was the only way to provide for her daughter and mother.
The book is written from the perspectives of Petra and Yiannis and another. I found this difficult to read as there was no connectivity between the chapters and characters. Although the underlying story is beautiful even though sad.
