Songbirds, written by the amazing author Christy Lefteri, is truly a great and inspiring read! The beautifully and powerfully written story about Nisha, an immigrant from Sri Lanka who works in Cyprus as a nanny, is told from the perspective of her lover Yiannis and her employer, Petra.
Nisha goes missing one day with no notice, and no one cares apart from Yiannis and Petra, who are greatly impacted and confused by her sudden disappearance. As they set out to search for Nisha, the two come to realise how little they actually know about their friend. Through the tragic and heartbreaking relationship of Nisha and Yiannis, their secrets are revealed and we also discover the brutal and horrific trapping of migrating songbirds relating to Yiannis's story. This book really dives into an important issue that needs to be talked about more, and I highly recommend it.
