I couldn’t wait to read this book mainly due to a beautiful enticing front cover and a wonderful other book (The Beekeeper of Aleppo) by the same author.
However this book was much slower and harder to read than the first. The characters were intriguing and unique and I liked how the story was told from different view points, however it is was hard to pick this book up and be engaged with reading it.
Overall I rated it 3/3.5 as I do love the poetic style of writing with descriptions that envoke the imagination. I would love for Christy Lefteri to write another book as good as the first one I read as she is extremely talented with making the reader believe they are at the scene of where the tale is set. Whilst books do not need to be packed with action, I do think this book could have been less linear and more explorative with the themes that are throughout.
