Beautifully written, beginning with poetic descriptions of nature I wasn't sure what to expect from 'Starve Acre'. I was certainly not disappointed by the strange juxtaposition between the lyrical language and the steadily mounting eeriness of the story.

To begin, the family and house at the centre of the book seemed like a regular family who have suffered a terrible tragedy which has caused them to perceive their situation as something unnatural and akin to the folklore prevalent in Countryside villages. Folklore becomes extremely prevalent within the story and becomes more and more unsettling as the book progresses, revealing the thriller genre into which the book falls.

The author tells the story of the present and the past in order to build suspense and keep the reader guessing. I personally couldn't put the book down and even though the book is quite short the story was able to keep a consistently fast pace without seeming rushed.

The cover is beautiful and successfully reveals the sinister subject matter within. I would certainly read more by this author and would recommend 'Starve Acre' to any lovers of supernatural thrillers.
