As the reader learns of the harrowing and unnerving actions of Ewan during his time alive, we begin to understand the cause of his death and the bizarre reaction seen from Juliette in the months following.
I can honestly say that I have never read a book like it. The folklore and occult behaviour woven throughout the novel leaves the reader with a sense of unease at the toxic consequences of grief on those left behind. The metaphor of the hare in trying to mend the hole left behind by the death of a loved one was both harrowing and heartbreaking, teaching the reader that things are not always as they appear on the surface.
Starve Acre was fast paced, full of questions and will imprint on your mind forever.
