"Perhaps I got used to loneliness because I could not miss
what I did not know."

We're introduced to a young boy growing up in Nazi Germany who, after an incident, can no longer see colour, and therefore, cannot fulfil his mother's dreams of being an artist. The themes of isolation are prominent from the offset, and it's clear to see why 'Stella' has won awards. The loneliness that the author portrays sets the scene for the upcoming story. Brilliant read!
