I don't often read historical fiction but this seems to be well written and accessible.
Complex relationships are explored from the beginning, and you feel sorry for Freidrich whose artistic potential is in jeopardy after an injury means he can't see colours.
I would be interested to read more of this story and see how Freidrich develops as a character, he's quite likeable despite the strained relationship between him and his mother.
