This book seems to have so much depth to it. There are so many stories entwined into one and it is just magical!
Friedrich longs to paint well to impress his mother, but when he becomes colourblind, that dream fades quickly. His mother loses interest in him and turns to drink more and more, his father, is barely around - he is alone. I found it absolutely inspiring that the boy, although so alone, is so kind and honest in such a raw way. The way he treats animals is beautiful, and I found it magical when he realises he can identify colours of paint by their scent. I cannot wait to see if his dreams of becoming an artist do have a chance of coming true!
