After reading the initial review, I must admit I was slightly disappointed with this book, the way it started didn't really grab my attention although it was a mixture of fact and fiction. The style of writing is different to other books I've read and the witness statements throughout the story had me wondering where they were going to slot into the storyline.
Stella, one of the main characters in the book was a factual person who seemed to drift through her troubled life. I do wonder why she continued to work with the Gestapo against her own race. It didn't seem to be a happy life that she led.
Friedrich on the other hand was fictitious and came across as a weak man who fell in love with the wrong woman.
The book did give me some insight to life back in the 1940's and how cruel some people can be.
The last few chapters brought the storyline together and everything seemed to slot into place. All in all I'm glad I read this book to the end.
